  Forum downtime today 3-6pm EST
Posted by: Nefari - 03-24-2017, 02:09 PM - Forum: News and Updates - Replies (1)

Heyo,

Sorry for the late notice, the forum will be down for a short time today for some minor maintenance. There won't be any noticeable changes to the forum during this time, it is just a maintenance update to finish getting us up to date and fixing a few bugs.

Downtime is being scheduled for 3-6pm EST, so it will start about 7 hours from now. 6pm is a rough estimate end time; it may not take that long.

During this time our Discord chat will still be fully available if you'd like to talk: https://discord.gg/5mG2wup - can also be accessed by clicking "Chat" in the menu.

  New forum theme
Posted by: Nefari - 03-14-2017, 02:20 AM - Forum: News and Updates - Replies (12)

Heyo,

After a long, long, long wait (very very sorry), we now have the working themes ready and available for everyone to use.

The current default theme, which has been switched over as the current setting for all of you, is New Dark Green. And for those who preferred the look of the original, the Dark Green Old Model theme is also available.

To switch to Dark Green Old Model, go to User CP --> Edit Options --> Board Style.
Alternatively, you can scroll to the bottom of the page and select the theme you'd like to use from there.

All features should be fully functioning now, but if you experience any bugs or odd things with the new themes, please say so.

  Scheduled downtime: tomorrow, Jan 14
Posted by: Nefari - 01-13-2017, 04:25 PM - Forum: News and Updates - Replies (2)

Heyo,

This should be the last patch of downtime for awhile.
What we will do:

  • Further update the forum theme, as mentioned here. The purpose of this is to fix the bugs people have been experiencing and streamline the forum appearance.

  • Add a new profile option that will allow users to choose how wide the forum appears on their screen. The available options would be fixed width (what we previously had, where the banner fits perfectly on the page) and scaling width (what we currently have, where the forum stretches to fit the screen). -- this is experimental.

There will be some changes to the site's appearance (again). After the update, a survey will be posted about these changes, and they will either stay or go back (maybe even change into something new if it's popular enough) based on how the majority responds.

The forum will be inaccessible while the updates are being made.

Forum version updated! Please report bugs here
Posted by: Nefari - 01-09-2017, 03:26 AM - Forum: News and Updates - Replies (30)

Hello everyone,

Deeply sorry for all the downtime, that was my bad, and this should not have taken as long as it did. However, we are now running the latest of our forum software, after having been out of date for over a year.

Because there's been such a big time gap between the last update, there are bound to be some broken images, formatting issues, etc. with the site. If you run into any, please post them here, so we can address them as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience. Nightmode is not yet available, but is being worked on.

Update summary

  • Went from forum software version 1.6.9 to 1.8.9
  • Removed thread ratings
  • Added scaling forum width
  • Prepared solution for email activation (currently being tested)
  • Increased number of images per post from 2 to 5

Account Activation Issues [Temporary Solution Until Forum Update]
Posted by: SirDip - 12-17-2016, 12:01 AM - Forum: News and Updates - Replies (2)

One current problem that affects a few people from registiring into this forum is that sometimes, they don't receive the activation e-mails that allows users to fully complete their account activation and start posting. I actually suffered from this issue when I first tried to register here, so yeah, I know it can be a little frustrating.

First, if you have registered your account but still haven't received said activation e-mail, check the spam section of your actual e-mail account. Sometimes it might end up in there and unfortunately that's not our fault.

Second, if the e-mail is nowhere to be found on that section nor anywhere in your inbox folder, here's a solution I tried back when I joined that allowed me to solve this issue. Hopefully it works for you too.

Access your User CPU and click the Change E-Mail link on the menu bar. Go to another tab on your browser and create a separate e-mail account (Gmail is highly recommended) solely for the forum before doing anything else. Once you're done and you're logged in your new Gmail account, go back to the forum tab you were in and follow the steps presented in the Change Email link you clicked a while back. Once you change your previous e-mail address to your new Gmail account, retrace the steps you took to re-send the activation e-mail. With luck, it should appear in your Gmail inbox and allow you to fully activate your forum account and log in.

I truly hope this is helpful to you. Take care. :)

Planned changes + next update scheduling
Posted by: Nefari - 12-13-2016, 11:21 PM - Forum: News and Updates - Replies (20)

Hey everyone! We've been planning a lot of changes over the last few weeks, and will be gearing up to actually make the updates relatively soon.

There isn't currently a date scheduled, but we're aiming to get everything done next weekend (Dec 23-25 -- just in time for Christmas). Please be aware that, while we're making the changes, the forum will be offline. This will not take up more than a few hours, and we'll let you know in advance at least a day in advance.
As soon as the team has decided on a date, I'll update this topic and make a new post to let everyone know.

Here are the changes we plan to make. If you disagree with any of them or want more information about what'll happen, please say so. The original suggestion topics are linked in this list.

  • Update the forum version. - discussion
Our forum software is over a year out of date. We'll be updating to the most recent MyBB version, which will increase our security, fix some bugs, and may alter the forum appearance slightly. (The images and colors will stay the same, but borders may be rounder, and there may be slightly more space in between posts.)
  • Fix email verification.
Some users have had trouble receiving emails from the website, but we'll be changing the email setup so that hopefully all emailed can be sent and received without issue.
  • Add nightmode. - discussion
We will add an optional dark skin for those who think the current layout is too bright. This will not be a default skin, and will not interfere with the current appearance in any way. You will be able to choose whether to use the default or nightmode skin.
We will also add a darker version of the mobile skin for night owl mobile users.
  • Add a WYSIWYG editor. - discussion
This will allow users to view their posts with additional formatting without hitting preview. So, instead of having to look at the "[ b ] your text here [ / b ]" coding while writing your posts, you will see them bolded and all. Essentially a built-in preview function. You will have the option to view formatting code if you choose to.
  • Add scaling to forum width. - discussion
Read this post for info on scaling.
  • Increase image limit in posts from 2 to 5. - discussion
  • Remove character limit in Usergames section. - discussion
  • Remove the thread ratings system. - discussion

That's all! If there's anything else you want to see happen in this update, please reply about it or make a suggestion thread. Or, if you think that any of the changes listed above shouldn't be made, we can discuss that too.

The creation of a new section & the rebranding of another
Posted by: MysterySeeker - 10-21-2016, 06:14 PM - Forum: News and Updates - No Replies

That's right everybody, today we finally introduced the "Debate & Discussions" section into the forum, which many have requested a long time ago. Now you have a place for all your serious discussions, without shitposts and memes getting in the way.

I also rebranded the former "Books" section into "Books & Music", since a few people have requested a music section. However, the book section already was pretty inactive, and a music section would most likely stay fairly inactive as well, so we now have a merged section for both topics.

  The new Mod Gang
Posted by: MysterySeeker - 10-20-2016, 02:13 PM - Forum: News and Updates - Replies (19)

Yup, that's right, you read that title correctly. After being promoted to admin, I could finally promote Baron Num Nums (formerly known as Hanaurie), Sir Dippingsauce, and Nefari (formerly Abia) as the new moderators of this forum.

I'm sure they'll do a great job taking care of this place while I'm not available!

  Spoiler Policy regarding the Journal
Posted by: MysterySeeker - 07-27-2016, 02:49 AM - Forum: News and Updates - Replies (33)

I'm sure we all know that the offical Journal 3 was just released today, and those lucky enough to already be able to call this book their own, can't wait to start discussing it. However, most of us don't have the book yet, and would probably prefer to red it as unspoiled as possible.

Because of this, all spoilers from the journal until the end of next week (August 7th) have to be put into the spoiler tab, as to not ruin the enjoyment for your fellow users.
I hope that clears everything up, now run off and have fun with your journals. (Once they arrive that is.)
